SAS, a founding member of the Star Alliance, is set to leave the alliance before summer 2024 and join SkyTeam. This news has sparked excitement among aviation enthusiasts as they anticipate the benefits that SkyTeam will bring with most airlines joining the alliance. Air France-KLM won the bid to provide SAS with financing to exit bankruptcy, making this transition possible.
Sas award space can be hard to come by, but it does exist. I personally flew SAS business class to Svalbard in 2016 and while it wasn't my favorite experience, it's certainly a loss for the Star Alliance and a win for SkyTeam. Time will tell if Sas joins the Flying Blue award scheme that currently includes Air France and KLM.
