Last week was a difficult time for aviation, but it could have been far worse. A collision occurred between a JAL flight 516, an A350, and a Japanese coast guard plane, resulting in the tragic death of five out of six passengers on the coast guard plane. Early investigations suggest that the coast guard plane, which had been tirelessly assisting earthquake-stricken areas, misunderstood air traffic control's instruction to hold short of the runway.

Unfortunately, Tokyo Haneda's runway collision warning lights were not operational, and the air traffic controllers failed to notice the runway monitoring system indicating the coast guard plane's presence for 43 seconds before the accident.
