Southwest Airlines is known for offering two free checked bags and free changes on all fares. However, the airline does have some fees which are set to increase from August 15th. The unaccompanied minor fee will double to $100 per minor each way, while excess bags over two will increase to $125 from $75.
Bags weighing between 51-70 pounds and 71-100 pounds will also increase to $100 and $125, respectively. Additionally, oversized bags and pet fares (excluding intra-Hawaii) will increase to $125 from $75 and $95, respectively. Despite these changes, Southwest remains a great option for those without elite status with other airlines as there are no basic economy fares and flight credits never expire.
