Hotels.com Challenges Loyalty Program Devaluation Claims: Hold My Beer!

This year, Marriott and Hyatt have devalued their points, but they're not the only ones. Hotels.com has announced changes to its rewards program that will take effect in mid-2023. Currently, Hotels.com awards one stamp for each hotel night and after earning 10 stamps, customers receive a free night equal to the average amount spent on those 10 nights. This amounts to an effective 10% rebate, making their value proposition stronger, especially for those who prefer earning rebates over hotel points. However, come mid-2023, the program will be replaced with One Key, a rewards program that will apply to Hotels.com, Expedia, and Vrbo. The announcement promises instant rewards instead of waiting for 10 stays. However, customers will now earn only 2% back. Keep this in mind when booking through online travel agencies.
